Lady Govs soccer OVC skid hits six

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. ? A second-half defensive breakdown by Austin Peay State University women's soccer team led a to 3-1 Ohio Valley Conference loss at Jacksonville State, Friday. The Lady Govs fall to 6-10 overall and remain winless at 0-6 in league play, while the Gamecocks improve to 4-9-1 with a 2-3-1 conference mark.

Senior defender Tyler Adair scored the Lady Govs only goal on a free kick from 20 yards out in the 60th minute. The goal tied the game, 1-1, after a Gamecock goal seven minutes earlier.

The Austin Peay defense turned porous after Adair's game-tying goal. In the 78th minute, JSU's Courtney Moore took advantage of the disorganization and scored the game-winner from the left side. Kim Kimmel added an insurance goal in the 90th minute, capitalizing on a deflection off the keeper.

Kimmel led Jacksonville State's  offense with five shots, four on goal, and a score. Sarah McAulay, who scored the game's first goal, added four shots. The Gamecocks outshot Austin Peay 24-13, including an 18-6 second-half advantage.

Adair and sophomore Monica Dunham each had three shots for the Lady Govs. Sophomore keeper Michelle Smith finished with five saves, but allowed a season-high three goals.

The Lady Govs return to action with a 1 p.m., Sunday, OVC match at Samford.
