MARTIN, Tenn. - Austin Peay State University's volleyball team returns from its Ohio Valley Conference road trip winless, falling at Tennessee-Martin, 3-1, Saturday.
The Lady Govs - who topped the Skyhawks, 3-1, at the Dunn Center less than a month ago - falls to 8-20 overall with a 3-13 league mark. Tennessee-Martin improves to 10-17 with a 4-11 OVC record.
After dropping the first game, 30-26, Austin Peay won the second game in the final two points. The score was tied, 28-28, as Maegan Squibb and Marisa Jordan recorded back-to-back kills for the win.
Tennessee-Martin won game three, 30-21. The Skyhawks held a 14-4 lead at one point, with the Lady Govs coming as close as seven points, 28-21. UTM took advantage of two Austin Peay errors - a service error and an attack error - for the win.
Austin Peay jumped out to a 4-0 lead in game four, but Tennessee-Martin battled back taking their first lead at 12-11. The Skyhawks were relentless and never trailed after that point, building a five point, 26-21 advantage. Austin Peay won seven of the final 12 points, narrowing the margin to one point, 29-28, but UTM's Kathryn Sprague recorded a block for match point.
Dodi Szymska led Austin Peay with 16 kills, while Kirstin Distler added 13. Kristen Kirch recorded 20 digs to lead the defense.
Lauren Montague had a match-high 20 kills and added 19 digs. Anna Gautreau had 34 digs to lead Tennessee-Martin.
Austin Peay returns to action with a 7 p.m., Tuesday, match against OVC rival Tennessee State at the Dunn Center.
