CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Austin Peay State University women's soccer team was shutout, 2-0, Friday night, in Ohio Valley Conference action at Southeast Missouri. The Lady Govs fall to 5-6 and remain winless in league play at 0-2. The Redhawks improve to 6-2-1 as they sit atop the conference standings at 3-0.
"We really didn't have any quality scoring chances," Lady Govs head coach Kelley Guth said. "They're a polished team and they put us to the test. it was a challenge for us and we're going to refocus, now, and look forward to Eastern Illinois, Sunday."
Sophomore keeper Michelle Smith posted a season-high 10 saves after facing 22 shots in the contest. Junior Ashley Beck paced a struggling Lady Govs offense with a pair of shots, both on goal. In fact, all five Austin Peay shots were on goal.
Southeast Missouri jumped out to an early lead when Ashley Runion found the back of the net in the 10th minute. Nicole Bussman added the insurance goal in the 78th minute on the rebound of Alaina Lacopo's corner kick.
Austin Peay returns to action with a 2 p.m., Sunday, OVC match at Eastern Illinois.
