CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? It doesn't get any easier for Austin Peay's men's basketball team.
The Governors will open the 2007-08 home season by playing host to Belmont, 7 p.m, Saturday in Dave Aaron Arena. The Bruins, who have won the Atlantic Sun Tournament the past two seasons, already are 3-1 this season, including Thursday's 82-73 win to open Samford's new Pete Hanna Center. It includes a season-opening victory against Cincinnati, 86-75.
Justin Hare, a preseason Mid-Major All-American, is averaging 17.3 ppg, 4.3 rpg and 3.3 apg. Fellow guard Andy Wicke is at 10.5 ppg while redshirt freshman forward Jordan Campbell is at 11.0 ppg and 5.8 rpg.
The Governors, meanwhile, are coming off a disappointing season-opening 81-67 loss at Vanderbilt. The Governors connected on just one field goal in the first nine minutes and were forced to dig out of a double-digit hole much of the night, although they trimmed the deficit to six just prior to halftime and again to the start the second half.
Todd Babington led the Governors with 21 points, including five three pointers, while Fernandez Lockett collected a double-double by scoring 14 points and grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds.
