CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? Sophomore forward Drake Reed, who averaged 15.8 points and 6.0 rebounds per game for the Austin Peay State University's men's basketball team, has been named honorable mention Associated Press All-America, released Monday by the wire service.
The 6-5, 235-pound Clarksville native (Northeast HS) earlier this month was selected Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year in just his sophomore season along with being selected first-team All-OVC.
"I am really excited about Drake earning this honor," APSU coach Dave Loos said. "I am very proud for him and our program.
"I can't say that I am surprised about anything he accomplishes because of the work habits he possesses. He always has the next goal, the next step in mind and he works towards it.
"He is the type of young man who can make his personal goals and our team goals run parallel."
He started all 33 of the Govs games during his second Govs season, shooting 51.9 percent from the floor to rank sixth in the OVC. His scoring average ranked fifth in the league and his rebounding average rated eighth. He had a 24-game streak of double-figure scoring contests end in the NIT contest at Air Force. He had eight 20-point-plus contests, including a career-high 31 points at Arkansas State.
"For someone to earn honorable mention All-America after just their sophomore year is really quite an accomplishment," Loos said. "As I read through the list of guys, there are some pretty good basketball players he is alongside of...and he deserves to be one of them."
