Barnes in second; Govs struggle in first round

JONESBORO, Ark. ? Austin Peay State University men's golf team struggled in its opening round and stands tied for
11th-place, at the ASU Indian Classic, Monday afternoon, at Sage Meadows Golf Club.
The Govs fired an opening-round 292 to sit 12 shots behind first-round leader Louisiana Tech in the 16-team
tournament. South Florida and Troy sit tied for second at 285.
On the bright side, Gov freshman
Erik Barnes is tied for second place individually, after firing an opening-round four-
under par 68, two shots back of Troy's Wes Parker. However, Barnes could not get a lot of help, as senior Yoshio
Yamamoto is the only other Gov in the top-20. He shot an opening-round 71 for 17th-place.
Sophomores
Ben Glover fired a 76 for t-61st place, while sophomore
Matt Coles and junior
Grant Leaver both fired a
77 for t-68th, rounding out the Govs scores.
The 54-hole event will wrap up with a 9 a.m., shotgun start Tuesday.
