MEMPHIS, Tenn. ? Austin Peay State University's volleyball team salvaged its weekend at the Memphis Invitational with a split of its two matches, Saturday. The Lady Govs saw their losing streak hit three matches with a 3-0 (30-24, 30-22, 30-22) loss to Mississippi State before finishing the weekend with a 3-0 (30-21, 30-22, 30-24) victory against Nicholls State.

Austin Peay (5-7) recorded just 30 kills in its morning loss to Mississippi State (5-4), with 19 errors dropping its attack percentage to an anemic .103. The Bulldogs had no such offensive troubles with an impressive 60 kills and a .375 attack percentage in the match, including a 23-kill second game.

Senior Dodi Szymska led the Lady Govs with 12 kills. MSU's Cristina Jucan led all hitters with 14 kills while teammate Jamie Joyner added 11 kills and posted a .458 attack percentage.

The Lady Govs offense faired a little better in its finale with Nicholls State (2-9) with the offense registering 44 kills and a .205 attack percentage. However, it was the return of APSU's potent serving that set the tone as it notched nine service aces, including four by freshman Taylor Skinner and three by senior Kristen Kirch.

The Colonels nearly matched the APSU offensive output with 43 kills, but had more attack errors which was reflected in a .146 attack percentage. Adding to NSU's woes were nine service errors against only three service aces.

Szymska ? who was named to the all-tournament team ? again led the Lady Govs with 12 kills. Skinner and freshman Maegan Quibb ? making her first collegiate start ? each added 10 kills.

Rachel Spreen and Kindra Halverson each had 10 kills to lead Nicholls State. Halverson added six blocks as the Colonels out-blocked the Lady Govs, 8-3.

Austin Peay returns to action when it opens Ohio Valley Conference play with a 6 p.m. (CDT), Friday, contest at Eastern Kentucky.
