Lady Govs basketball goes big with Hill

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? Admittedly needing to add size, Austin Peay State University women's basketball team has added Kaitlyn Hill of Belleville, Ill., to its 2009-10 roster, head coach Carrie Daniels announced, Thursday.

Hill, a 6-3 center, averaged 12.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game last season as a second-team all-conference selection at Belleville West High School. She made 45.8 percent of her field-goal attempts and 71.8 percent of her free-throw attempts. However, it was her performance this summer as a member of the Lady Jets Junior Olympic AAU basketball team that attracted attention from other Division I schools such as Arkansas State, Creighton, Eastern Illinois, Missouri State and Southern Illinois.

“We're very excited to add Kaitlyn to the team,” said Daniels. “She's going to bring much needed size and provide us a presence on the inside next season. Kaitlyn is a quality player who has a lot of experience playing on successful teams. She's played for a great high school program and her AAU team has had a lot of success. Kaitlyn is a quality kid who comes from a great family and will be a great addition to our team.”

As a sophomore, Hill averaged 9.8 points and six rebounds per game and was named third-team all conference.

Hill also is an outstanding student academically, ranked 29th out of her class of 512 and a member of the National Honor Society and the National Council on Youth Leadership. She also competed in shot put and discus and was a state qualifier in the shot put.
