CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? Former Austin Peay State University basketball star Adrian Henning has signed a pro contract for the 2008-09 season with the Barons LMT Riga in Latvia.
LMT Riga is a member of the ULEB Cup, an elite league consisting of top overseas teams in Europe.
The 6-7 Henning, a two-time All-Ohio Valley Conference choice during his Governors days (2000-04), finished his most recent season as the leading scorer in the FIBA EuroCup league. His 20.6 ppg average for Lappeenranta (Finland) was against such formidable opponents like Tartu (Estonia), Samara (Russia), and PAOK (Greece).
In addition to his scoring numbers, he averaged 7.1 rpg, 1.4 apg, 1.0 spg, and 1.0 bpg. He also shot 64.2 percent from inside the three-point arc. He earned All-FIBA EuroCup honorable mention recognition.
As a result of his outstanding season, Henning had several offers for the upcoming season. He elected to sign with Barons of the Latvian first division. The Barons captured the 2008 FIBA EuroCup Championship in a one-point win over Dexia Mons-Hainaut of Belgium. Their championship earned them an invitation to participate in the ULEB Cup for the 2008-09 season; the ULEB Cup will be called the “EuroCup” next season while the FIBA EuroCup will be renamed the “EuroChallenge”. In addition to playing a full ULEB schedule next season, the Barons will also compete in the BBL, a league comprised of elite teams from the Baltic region.
The Barons will seek to defend their Latvian domestic league championship which they captured against ASK Riga.
Henning scored 1353 points during his four-season APSU, helping lead the Governors to back-to-back OVC regular-season titles in 2003-04 and an NCAA tourney appearance in 2003.
