CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? Austin Peay State University men and women's cross country teams endured rainy, muddy conditions in Nashville, Friday, at the Belmont Opener. The men finished sixth in a nine team field, while the women finished ninth in a 12 team field.
The women's team was again led by senior Bertha Castillo, who recorded her second consecutive top-ten finish with a time of 15:00.95 in the four-kilometer race, finishing ninth. Freshman Janelle Avery had another good showing for the Lady Govs, finishing 32nd with a mark of 15:40.65. Senior Melissa Nobbs (54th, 16:09.76) and freshman Shannon Moberly (80th, 17:46.55, in her first race) also had strong times for the Lady Govs. Sophomore Tracee Gruskiewicz (82nd, 17:58.02), freshman Hannah Scruton (86th, 18:29.34) and junior Kate Gauf (87th, 18:31.75) also scored for the Lady Govs.
On the men's side, senior Tim Hall led the charge again for the Govs, finishing 12th with a time of 15:54.87 in the five-kilometer race. Seniors Ryne Sexton (22nd, 16:07.15) and Matt Rowe (40th, 16:34.09), as well as freshman Andre Braima (30th, 16:23.83) all cracked the top-40 for the Govs. Freshman Enock Langat (45th, 16:48.75), junior Lukas Siska (59th, 17:08.24) and freshman Jimmy Lynch (62nd, 17:10.66) also scored for the Govs.
Both the men and women's teams defeated Tennessee-Martin, the only other Ohio Valley Conference team in the field.
The men and women's teams will next compete Saturday, September 13, at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic.
