NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Senior outside hitter Stephanie Champine had 14 kills as Austin Peay State University's volleyball team posted a three-set sweep
(26-24, 25-13, 25-22) at Tennessee State, Friday night, in Ohio Valley
Conference action.
Austin Peay (13-5, 7-1 OVC) only trailed early in both the
first and second sets and never trailed in the third en route to the sweep.
In the first set, the Lady Govs led by as many as six points
before the Lady Tigers rallied to tie the set, 24-24. Champine broke the tie
with a kill and sophomore libero Paige Economos won the set with a service ace.
The second set was all Austin Peay, but was decided with an 11-3 set-ending
run. The Lady Govs led the third set wire-to-wire, but staved off a scoring run
that moved TSU within a point, 10-9, with four straight points and were not
threatened the rest of the way.
Champine's match-high 14 kills came on 42 attacks and she
recorded a .214 attack percentage. Senior opposite hitter Kirstin Distler
chipped in 10 kills on 21 attempts and a .381 attack percentage. Austin Peay
finished with 46 kills as a team and committed only 11 errors for a .271 attack
percentage.
Tennessee State (2-16, 1-6 OVC) did not have a player
reach double-digit kill territory and recorded just 35 kills with 18 errors and
a .130 attack percentage.
Austin Peay takes gets a seven-day break before meeting
Murray State in a 7 p.m., Oct. 9, league outing.
