CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Austin Peay State University's
volleyball team remained unbeaten in Ohio Valley Conference play with a 3-0
(25-17, 25-20, 25-16) victory against Tennessee Tech, Friday night, at the Dunn
Center.
Austin Peay (11-4, 5-0 OVC) won its sixth-straight contest
despite an off night offensively. The Lady Govs committed 18 attack errors,
their most since a 24-error performance in their last loss to Loyola (Ill.),
Sept. 12, and posted a .218 attack percentage with 44 kills.
However, they were able to use a strong defensive effort
to create more than enough problems for visiting Tennessee Tech. Austin Peay
won the back-row defensive battle with a 61-52 edge in digs and added a 10-6
advantage in blocks to win the front-row defensive skirmish.
Tennessee Tech (3-12, 2-4 OVC) saw its two-match win
streak halted as it recorded 27 kills but committed 22 attack errors to finish
with a .043 attack percentage. They become the eighth-straight APSU opponent
held below a .200 attack percentage.
Senior outside hitter Stephanie Champine finished with a
match high 15 kills and added 11 digs for her season's eighth double-double.
Sophomore outside hitter Ilyanna Hernandez added 11 kills and junior middle
blocker Taylor Skinner chipped in seven kills but committed no errors for a
team-best .438 attack percentage.
Junior outside hitter Leah Meffert and senior outside
hitter Teresa Craig each had seven kills to pace the Golden Eagles offense.
Austin Peay – which is off to its best OVC start in program history – returns to action when it hosts fellow OVC
unbeaten Jacksonville State in a 2 p.m. contest today at the Dunn Center. The
Gamecocks improved to 13-5 overall and 6-0 in league play with a three-set
sweep at Tennessee State, Friday night
