LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Austin Peay State University alumnus A.J. Ellis recorded his first major league hit and RBI in Los Angeles' regular-season ending contest against Colorado, Sunday.
Tabbed as the starting catcher, Ellis capped the Dodgers' four-run first inning with an RBI single. The hit came in his seventh at-bat this season in two different stints with the major league squad. A member of the Dodgers' 40-man roster all season he was called up as part of the September roster expansion for the second consecutive year.
Ellis was called up from Albuquerque, the Triple-A farm team of the
Dodgers where he hit .314 with 39 RBI this season with the Isotopes.
Many people believe that Ellis could make a run for the starting
position in L.A. next season.
Ellis, who holds Austin Peay's career hits record with 263, batted .351 in four seasons with the Governors. He also ranks fourth on
the school's career batting list, his 168 RBI's ranks third, and
collected a .443 on-base percentage in his four seasons earning him
First-Team All-Ohio Valley Conference honors in each of his four
seasons.
