Clarksville, Tenn. - Junior goalkeeper Carley Newman, of the Austin Peay State University women's soccer team, has been named the Copies In a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.
Newman saved 22 of 23 shots faced last week in the Lady Govs matches at Southeast Missouri and Eastern Illinois. She a career-high 17 saves against the Redhawks, Friday, for her season's second shutout, tying her for fourth-highest single-game total in Lady Govs history.
Tuesday, Newman was named the Ohio Valley Conference's Goalkeeper of the Week.
The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.
Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:
- Sophomore tailback Ryan White, of the Austin Peay football team, had his season's second 100-yard game (fifth of his career), hitting exactly 100 yards on 22 carries in the Govs 31-23 loss at Tennessee Tech, Saturday.
- Senior outside hitter Stephanie Champine, of the Austin Peay volleyball team, had 49 kills (.218 attack percentage) in the Lady Govs three matches last week. She ran her streak of consecutive matches with double-digit kills to 12.
- Senior quarterback Gary Orr, of the Austin Peay football team, was 15-for-23 for 198 yards a touchdown in the Govs loss at Tennessee Tech.
