CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. ? Junior Michelle Liew had a terrific finish, but the Austin Peay women's tennis team could not survive “Death Valley,” falling at Morehead State, 6-1, and at Eastern Kentucky, 6-0, to end the 2009 season.

Liew capped the season winning eight of her last ten matches at No. 2 singles, finishing with a 13-5 overall record and a 5-3 conference mark. The Lady Govs, however, finished 2-16 overall with a 1-7 league clip.

Austin Peay played a trio of three-set matches against Morehead State (11-10, 3-6 OVC) in a marathon matchup moved indoors due to heavy thunderstorms. Mariana Pagan and Yuki Nakamura each won the middle set, but lost their respective matches at No. 1 and No. 3 singles. Liew, meanwhile, dropped the opening set but battled back to win the final two sets and a tiebreaker at No. 2.

Eastern Kentucky (20-5) rolled through the Lady Govs en route to its perfect 9-0 league mark and its first-ever OVC women's tennis championship. Pagan lost No. 1 singles in a tiebreaker to Alexandra Sitnikova ? winning the first set 7-5, but falling 6-1 in set two and 10-7 in the tiebreaker.
