CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – After falling in her opening set Austin Peay State University women's tennis sophomore Yi-Ching Huang mounted an improbable comeback to earn an impressive three-set comeback in the singles quarterfinals, Friday, at the Governors Tennis Courts.
The top-seeded singles player in the UAC Women's Tennis Fall Individual Championships, Huang fell in her opening set to North Alabama's Emma Ansorge, 6-2. Following the first frame, Huang responded by sweeping Ansorge, 6-0 in the second before then defeating her in the 10-point tiebreaker, 10-6.
The win improved Huang to 5-4 in singles on the season and to 3-1 in three-set matches. The victory also was her second three-set win this season when dropping her opening set, and the first since a 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 7-5 win against Marshall's Alina Mokrynska at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Championships, Sept. 20.
Huang advances to the singles semifinals where she faces Tarleton State's [4] Maria Castano at 10:30 a.m., Saturday.
In the Governors' lone other match of the day, Sati Aubakirova fell in a 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 7-10 match. Traiing 5-3 in the second set, Aubakirova came back to force the tiebreaker and win it, 7-4. She then fell in a back-and-forth 10-point tiebreaker.
