LOUISVILLE, Ky. ? Three Austin Peay track and field athletes competed at the NCAA Regionals, hosted by the University of Louisville, Friday.
Sophomore sprinter Chiamaka Obi finished 17th with a 56.33 mark in the 400-meter dash, her career-best.
“Obi did a great job getting a p.r. in her first regional meet,” said head coach Doug Molnar. “She was on the outside but put herself in great position and just lost steam down the stretch. She ran the race how it was supposed to be run ? I can't complain when she has her best race in the outside lane.”
Juniors Carrie Burggraf and Molly Bartkiewicz finished 18th and 22nd, respectively, with 3.81 (12-06.00) marks, with finishes decided in jump-offs.
“Molly and Carrie both had a tough region to come out of,” said Molnar. “Both cleared 12-6 but couldn't quite get over 12-9.”
Molnar expects great things from his returners next year.
“All three of these young ladies, as well as much of this year's team, will be back next season,” said Molnar. “This was Molly and Carrie's second regional each, and you can't buy that kind of experience.”
