CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- Former Austin Peay State University catcher, A.J. Ellis got called up to the Los Angeles Dodgers' 40-man roster Tuesday. It was the third time this season Ellis has been recalled.
He is expected to remain for the season's remainder, serving as the third catcher behind Russell Martin and Brad Ausmus.
Ellis, his wife, Cindy, and his daughter Ainsley drove all night from Albuquerque, where he caught Monday, to Los Angeles in time for Tuesday's Dodgers-Arizona contest.
Ellis, who holds the school's career hits record with 263, also batted .351 in four seasons with the Governors. He also ranks fourth on the school's career batting list, his 168 RBI's ranks third, and collected a .443 on-base percentage in his four seasons earning him First-Team All-Ohio Valley Conference honors in each of his four seasons.
Ellis was called up from Albuquerque, the Triple-A farm team of the Dodgers where he hit .314 with 39 RBI this season with the Isotopes. Many people believe that Ellis could make a run for the starting position in L.A. next season.
