CLARKSVILLE,
Tenn. – Austin Peay State University women's soccer team played to a scoreless tie, Friday, with
Arkansas-Pine Bluff, at Morgan Brothers Soccer Field. The Lady Govs go to 1-3-1
overall, while the Lady Lions remain without a loss at 1-0-2 overall.
Austin
Peay played well on both ends, but again struggled to find the back of the net.
The Lady Govs outshot UAPB, 17-4, including a 3-1 advantage in the overtimes.
The Lady Govs also won the corner battle, 4-3.
Freshman
Danielle Roos nearly put the Lady Govs on the board early in the game. A foul
by Arkansas-Pine Bluff just inside the half line led to a drop and free kick by
the Lady Govs. Roos' kick hit the top cross bar, came straight down and was
deflected out of play by the Lady Lions keeper.
The
Lady Govs would get another chance in the 20th minute. Again following a foul,
freshman Jazzmine Chandler served a ball into the box to pair of Austin Peay
strikers and the ball was scored. However, an offsides call negated the goal.
Arkansas-Pine
Bluff had its opportunity midway through the second half. After an Austin Peay
shot sailed high, the Lady Lion keeper served a goal kick into the defense.
UAPB pushed it through, but Jade West was met by Lady Govs keeper Mackenzie Ladd who emerged with the ball.
Neither
team managed much in the first overtime. In the second overtime, however,
Austin Peay came up short on a pair of chances. Roos' shot in the 117th minute went
high and junior Monica Dunham's attempt off a corner sailed just wide of the
post.
The
Lady Govs return to action on the road with a 6:30 p.m., Friday, match at South
Florida.
