Lady Govs look to tame road woes with key conference trip at Tennessee Tech

With just one victory away from the Dunn Center this season, Austin Peay women's basketball team takes to the road for a crucial 5:30 p.m., Thursday contest at Tennessee Tech.

Austin Peay is 1-6 in true road games this season, the lone victory coming in its road-opener at Lipscomb, Nov. 17. Since that victory, the Lady Govs have lost six straight, including its first OVC road trip – to Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky – to begin the New Year.

The Lady Govs will travel to Cookeville with a three-game win streak in hand after defeating Tennessee State, 77-66, last Thursday. Sophomore Jasmine Rayner and senior Nicole Jamen each posted double-doubles in the victory. Rayner tied a career high with 21 points and added 12 rebounds while Jamen chipped in a 17-point, 12-rebound performance.

Herring continues to lead the Lady Govs offensive efforts this season, averaging 12.9 points per game while making 41.9 percent of her field goals. The frontcourt duo of Rayner and senior Nicole Jamen also have been a collective force to deal with this season. Jamen averaging 10.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game while Rayner has added 9.5 points and 6.4 rebounds per contest.

Tennessee Tech is 1-5 since the calendar changed to 2010 but the one win was a 75-47 home victory against then-OVC unbeaten Eastern Kentucky. Last week the Golden Eagles lost both halves of a road trip, falling at Tennessee Martin (56-52) and at Murray State (82-72).  Freshman Kylie Cook averaged 14.0 points in the two contests to lead the TTU offensive effort.

Sophomore Tacarra Hayes has been the Golden Eagles top offensive threat this season, leading the team in both scoring (15.2 ppg) and rebounding (5.6 rpg). She has been to the free-throw line a league-high 140 times this season but is only making 59.3 percent of her attempts.

Tennessee Tech is 5-1 at the Eblen Center this season, the lone loss coming against Morehead State, Jan. 7.
