COOKEVILLE - Austin
Peay State University women's basketball team trailed by five points with six
minutes remaining but surrendered a game-ending 20-4 run as Tennessee Tech won
a 77-56 Ohio Valley Conference decision, Thursday night at the Eblen Center.
Austin Peay (6-13, 5-3
OVC) saw their road woes continue as they lost their seventh straight road
contest. The Lady Govs were within five points with 5:34 remaining before the
offense went cold. They made just 1-of-5 from the field and 2-of-5 at the free
throw line in the final minutes and were outrebounded by an 8-3 margin.
Tennessee Tech (8-10,
3-5) made five of its nine field goals in the game-winning spurt and added an
8-of-10 effort at the free-throw line. Sophomore Tacarra Hayes and freshman Krystal
Stirrup each scored eight points.
Sophomore Jasmine Rayner led the Lady Govs with 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Junior
Ashley Herring added 14 points.
Hayes led the Golden
Eagles with 39 points, making 13-of-23 from the field and 12-of-15 at the
free-throw line. Stirrup added 21 points off the bench, making 6-of-8 from the
field and 7-of-7 at the free throw line.
Austin Peay continues
its brief two-game road trip with a 2 p.m., Saturday contest at Jacksonville
State.
