Lady Govs unable to solve hot-shooting Eagles

CLARKSVILLE - Austin Peay State University women's basketball team suffered its first Ohio Valley Conference loss at the Dunn Center, dropping an 88-68 contest to a hot-shooting Morehead State team, Sunday afternoon.

As was the case in the first meeting, Austin Peay (8-14, 7-4 OVC) had few answers for a potent Morehead State three-point attack. The Lady Govs surrendered 15 three-pointers in Sunday's outing, including nine by junior Chynna Bozeman which tied an Eagles single-game record.  That performance was just 29 days removed from the Eagles 12 three-pointer performance in the season's first meeting between the two teams.

Morehead State (16-7, 9-2) broke the game open with an 18-5 run to end the first half and took a 53-31 advantage into halftime. Austin Peay would win the second half by a 37-35 margin but the final margin was the closest they would get in the period.

Junior Ashley Herring led the Lady Govs with 21 points, making six of her 11 field goals. Sophomore Whitney Hanley added 14 points and senior Nicole Jamen chipped in 12 points.

Bozeman finished with 37 points, making 13-of-20 from the field including 9-of-13 from three-point range. Tiffanie Stephens chipped in 15 points and six assists off the bench.

Austin Peay begins a road-laden February - five of its seven games are road affairs - with a 5:30 p.m., Thursday contest at Tennessee Martin.
