Lady Govs volleyball wraps up OVC slate with sweep

Box Score

CLARKSVILLE - Austin Peay State University's volleyball team wrapped up Ohio Valley Conference play with a three-set sweep (25-21, 25-13, 25-17) of Tennessee State, Friday night, at the Dunn Center.

Austin Peay (23-6, 14-4 OVC) recognized its three seniors - Sarah Alisaleh, Jessica Mollmann and Taylor Skinner - prior to the contest, but it was a pair of juniors that led the winning effort. Junior Ilyanna Hernandez posted 15 kills without an error in 27 attacks to finish with an impressive .556 attack percentage. Junior Kayla Grantham added nine kills and a .467 attack percentage.

Tennessee State (9-16, 7-11 OVC) challenged Austin Peay in the opening set, but never led by more than a point in the set. A 10-9 deficit would be the last time TSU would lead as the Lady Govs scored consecutive points to retake the lead. Austin Peay used an 8-4 run to close out the set for the 25-21 victory.

Austin Peay would not trail in the second or third sets, running out to early leads and holding on. The Lady Govs ran out to a 6-1 lead in the second set and later used a six consecutive points to build a 23-12 lead before posting the 25-13 victory.

Austin Peay built a 7-2 opening lead in the third set and fended off a 6-2 TSU run that cut the lead to 12-10. An 8-2 Austin Peay run took care of the threat as the Lady Govs posted the 25-17 victory.

Austin Peay finished with 46 kills and only eight errors to post a .400 attack percentage. The Lady Govs added seven service aces and six blocks. Alisaleh recorded 43 assists in her final OVC match while Skinner and Mollman each had six kills.

Shaquita Williams led Tennessee State with 11 kills. However, the Lady Tigers finished with only 32 kills and a .178 attack percentage.

Austin Peay finishes off its regular-season slate with a 5 p.m., Saturday non-conference tilt against SIU Edwardsville.
