Box Score CLARKSVILLE - Austin Peay State
University's volleyball team closed out its regular-season slate with a
three-set sweep (25-21, 25-15, 25-15) of SIU Edwardsville in non-conference
action, Saturday at the Dunn Center.
Austin Peay (24-6) trailed only
early in the second set and led the first and third sets wire-to-wire. The Lady
Govs nearly matched their previous night's output, recording 51 kills and a
.398 attack percentage.
The Lady Govs jumped out to a
10-5 lead in the first set, but had to fend off a seven-point Cougars run that
tied the set, 16-16. Austin Peay scored four of the next five points and won
the set, 25-21.
SIU Edwardsville (13-15) scored
the second set's first two points and held that two-point lead until Austin
Peay scored three straight points to take a 7-6 lead. Another four-point run
gave the Lady Govs a10-7 lead they would not relinquish, winning the set 25-15.
Austin Peay scored the third
set's first three points and jumped out to a 9-4 lead as they led wire-to-wire.
The Lady Govs scored seven straight points later in the set to build a 20-11
lead en route to the 25-15 win.
Sophomore Nikki Doyle led
Austin Peay with 15 kills and no errors and finished the match with a
career-best .625 attack percentage. Junior Ilyanna Hernandez added 13 kills and
senior Jessica Mollmann chipped in 11 kills.
Sydney Winslow led SIU
Edwardsville with eight kills. The Cougars recorded just 28 kills in the loss
and were held to a .220 attack percentage.
Austin Peay begins postseason
play with a Friday contest at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships.
