Box Score CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Austin
Peay State University closed out the road portion of its 2010 schedule with a
three-set sweep (25-22, 25-21, 25-18) of Southeast Missouri in Ohio Valley
Conference action at Houck Fieldhouse.
Austin Peay (22-6, 13-4 OVC)
trailed just once the entire match, after committing an attack error on the
match's first point. The Lady Govs got the point back on a Southeast Missouri miscue
and took the lead courtesy senior Sarah Alisaleh's service ace.
Southeast Missouri (6-21, 3-13
OVC) stuck close throughout the contest, trailing by no more than seven points
in any set. The Redhawks fell behind by six points in the opening set, but
recovered and staved off set point three times before falling at 25-22. Southeast
Missouri forced a tie at 20-20 in the second set, but could not take the lead
as Austin Peay scored five of the set's final six points, winning 25-21.
It was only the third set that
Austin Peay led comfortably late. A 7-2 run turned a two-point advantage into a
seven-point, 21-14, lead, which they would maintain to the 25-18 set victory.
Junior Ilyanna Hernandez led
the Lady Govs with 14 kills. Sophomore Nikki Doyle added 12 kills but led the
team with a .393 attack percentage, committing just one error on 28 attempts.
Austin Peay finished with 50
team kills, recording 18 in both the first and second sets. The Lady Govs also
were efficient offensively, committing only 17 errors and finishing with a .236
attack percentage.
Southeast Missouri scored just
36 team kills, Clair Keaton leading the effort with eight kills.
Austin Peay returns home to
close out its regular-season slate with a pair of contest. The Lady Govs close
out the OVC race with a 7 p.m., Friday contest against Tennessee State. They
will then wrap up the regular-season schedule with a 5 p.m., Saturday contest
against SIU Edwardsville.
