COOKEVILLE, Tenn - Austin Peay women's tennis team won its second straight match, a 5-2 Ohio Vally Conference decision, at Tennessee Tech, Friday.
It was the Lady Govs first win over Tennessee Tech since 1994.
The Lady Govs improve to 7-3 overall with a 1-1 league clip. The Golden Eagles, meanwhile, fall to 0-6 with an 0-2 OVC mark.
Without regard to the trends, the Lady Govs picked up the win despite losing the doubles point. Sophomore Vanja Tomic and senior Mariana Pagan won at No. 1 doubles, 8-3. Much like in the win against Southern Illinois, Feb. 26, the Lady Govs would pick up the slack in singles.
Tomic won in straight sets at No. 1 singles, while freshman Carolin Weikard overcame a second-set loss to win in three. Pagan improved to 8-0 at No. 3 singles with a win against Laura Porras.
Austin Peay locked up their season's first OVC victory with a pair of wins in the bottom of the lineup. Senior Michelle Liew and sophomore Demi Georgakopoulos each won in straight sets at Nos 4 and 6, respectively.
