CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Austin Peay men's tennis team won its second Ohio Valley Conference match, 5-2, against Murray State in its home season finale, Thursday.
It was the Govs second-straight OVC win and it matches their season's longest winning streak of two straight.
The win improved the Govs to 2-4 in league play, putting them in a good position for an OVC tournament berth if they can close the season with a road win at Eastern Illinois, Sunday. The Panthers and Racers each have one OVC win as of Thursday.
In his final home match, senior
Leonardo Locatelli and freshman
John Storie helped the Govs to the doubles point with an 8-3 win at No. 3. At the top, freshman duo of
Sean Bailey and
Henrique Norbiato won the deciding match, 9-8, in a tiebreaker at No. 1.
In singles play, Bailey and Norbiato prevailed again with wins at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively, both in straight sets. Storie, meanwhile, won at No. 3 singles with a pair of 7-5 set wins.
The Govs close the season with a pair of road matches, first a Saturday match at SIU Edwardsville, followed by Sunday's OVC match at Eastern Illinois.
