Box Score CLARKSVILLE - Austin Peay State
University's volleyball team ran its win streak to 10 matches with a three-set
sweep (25-21, 25-20, 25-10) of UT Martin in Ohio Valley Conference action,
Saturday afternoon at the Dunn Center.
Austin Peay (11-1, 2-0 OVC) got
out of the gates slowly, trailing in the opening set 14-10. However, they
scored eight of the next 10 points to take an 18-16 lead and would not look
back, winning the set 25-21.
UT Martin (2-11, 0-2) had few
answers for Austin Peay's offensive attack in the second and third sets. The Skyhawks
were able to momentarily stymie the Lady Govs at the end of the second set,
staving off five consecutive set points before yielding 25-20. However, Austin
Peay opened the third set with eight consecutive points en route to the 25-10
match-sealing victory.
All 13 Austin Peay players saw
action in the contest, sophomore Nikki Doyle leading the team with 13 kills.
Senior Jessica Mollman and sophomore Alex Sain each added 10 kills. Austin Peay
finished the match with 50 kills and a .333 attack percentage.
"It speaks highly of our team
because everyone who got in made a contribution to the outcome," said Lady Govs
head coach Haley Janicek.
Lauren Montague led UT Martin
with 12 kills - a third of the team's 36 kills on the day.
Austin Peay returns to action when it hosts Lipscomb in a 7 p.m., Tuesday contest.
