Box Score COOKEVILLE - Austin Peay State University women's soccer dropped a 1-0
overtime decision at Tennessee Tech, Sunday, in Ohio Valley Conference
action.
The Lady Govs fell to 7-6-1 with a 1-2-1 mark in OVC play, while it was
Tennessee Tech's first OVC win, improving them to 5-11-1 overall with a
1-5 league mark.
After playing their season's first overtime game, Friday, at
Jacksonville State, the Lady Govs found themselves in extra time again,
Sunday. Credit the Golden Eagles on defense, making due even with the
Lady Govs outshooting them 15-10 for the match. Austin Peay had seven
shots in each half, but managed only one in overtime.
Tennessee Tech, meanwhile, generated two shots in the extra period. The
game-winner came off a corner kick in the 98th minute with Leigh Heffner
finding the back of the net with a header.
Austin Peay came out of each half aggressive, forcing five corner kicks
in the game's first 25 minutes and three corners in the first 15 minutes
of the second half. From that point, the Golden Eagles were able to
contain the Lady Govs outside the penalty area.
Freshman
Claire Pultz led Austin Peay with two shots on goal, while
Emily Perkins,
Emily Kink and
Corey Osborn each had one shot on goal.
Osborn, the Lady Govs outside back, led the Lady Govs with three shots.
Sophomores
Andy Quiceno and
Tatiana Ariza had two shots each.
The loss drops the Lady Govs to ninth in the OVC race with four matches
to play. The remaining schedule for Austin Peay includes home matches
this weekend against SIU Edwardsville and Eastern Illinois, before
closing the regular season on the road at Eastern Kentucky and Morehead
State.
