BOWLING GREEN, Ohio. - If any team has made more progress from Game 2 to Game 3 of this season it would have to be George Washington.

After being blown out by California, 81-54, more than a week ago, the Colonials turned around Monday night to defeat Horizon League favorite, Detroit, 86-73, in a game that saw George Washington lead by more than 20 points for much of the second half.

The Colonials are Austin Peay's next opponent, 4 p.m., CT, when the College Basketball Experience continues, Tuesday, in the Stroh Center.

George Washington is playing its first season under Mike Lonergan, who directed Vermont to three America East regular- season titles and three conference title games before coming to Colonials. Tony Taylor is a preseason All-Atlantic 10 selection and lived up to it against Detroit, scoring a game-high 22 points en route to 1,000 career points.

Meanwhile, guard Lasan Kromah has resumed his role this season as a vital cog after missing all of last season with a foot injury. He had 17 points, Monday, against Detroit. The Colonials also will feature three players inside who stand 6-foot-8 or taller.

With Austin Peay still minus 6-8 center John Fraley, the height advantage figures to be an issue again for a Governors basketball team that permitted 15 offensive rebounds to Bowling Green, Monday night.

On the bright side, the Governors shot a season-best 50.7 percent from the floor as point guard Jerome Clyburn led APSU with 17 points while Josh Terry added 16. The Edwardsville, Ill., duo of Will Triggs and Anthony Campbell added 10 apiece. It was Campbell's first double-digit scoring performance in nearly a year-since his ACL surgery last December.

Triggs, meanwhile, recorded his second career double-double by grabbing 10 rebounds.

The Govs, however, committed 19 turnovers and converted just 14 of 27 free throws to undermine their season's best shooting performance.

Governors Pardon

  • This is Austin Peay's 80th season of basketball.
  • Dave Loos, APSU's all-time winningest basketball coach, also is the OVC's all-time wins leader with 351 victories. He also has 433 career coaching wins.
  • The Dave Aaron Arena playing floor was named Dave Loos Court, Summer 2007. Loos is believed to be one of only three current Division I men's coaches who are coaching on courts that bear their respective names-Duke's Mike Krzyzewski and Syracuse's Jim Boeheim-are the other two. Valparaiso's Homer Drew, who retired after the 2010-11 season, had the floor named after him last season.
  • Since 1993-94, Austin Peay has finished no worse than fifth in the OVC standings.
  • Austin Peay has reached at least the OVC tournament semifinals in 13 of the last 17 years.
