CLARKSVILLE- Austin Peay State University women's
tennis team used a strong singles attack to pick up a 5-2 win against future
Ohio Valley Conference opponent SIU Edwardsville, Saturday.
Without a healthy No. 6 player, the Lady Govs
had to win all five singles matches after losing the doubles point without a
No. 3 doubles team.
Sophomore Carolin Weikard and freshman
Kimberly Loo remain undefeated at No. 1 doubles after an 8-2 win against Rachel
Webb and Joanna Corkern. Weikard and Loo have now won first three matches.
Junior Vanja Tomic and freshman Andra Cornea lost 8-6 at No. 2 doubles;
suffering their second-straight defeat.
On the singles side, the Lady Govs were
strong as always. Tomic rolled to a straight-set win at No. 1, pacing the top
four singles matches. Freshman Rachel Margolies had to overcome a second-set
loss to win 10-4 in a tiebreak at No. 5 singles.
The Lady Govs play their next four matches on
the road, beginning with a 5 p.m., Saturday match against Miami (Ohio) in
Louisville.
