CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.- Austin Peay State
University men's tennis team defeated Lipscomb, 6-1, Wednesday night, at the
Governors Indoor Tennis Center.
The Govs used a solid effort in both singles
and doubles to put away the Bisons. For the third-straight match, Austin Peay
won the doubles point, but this time not without excitement.
No. 1 doubles team of Henrique Norbiato and
Sean Bailey made quick work of Joe McArdle and Oliver Strecker, but the Govs
freshman No. 2 tandem of Jasmin Ademovic and Remi Calleja needed a tiebreaker to
seal their win. Then at No. 3, John Storie and Joao Pagan won an 8-4 match
against Miguel Cortez and Mario Hernandez.
The momentum carried over as the Govs won
five of six singles matches. In an expected lineup change for the Govs, Norbiato
played at No. 1 singles, where he suffered his season's first loss. Norbiato
fell to Strecker in three sets.
Meanwhile Nos. 2 through 5 each won in
straight sets and Storie earned a comeback win at No. 6. Storie lost the first
set, 1-6, but made the right adjustments to win the second set 7-6. He then held
on for a 10-8 tiebreaker win to take the match.
Austin Peay gets a short break, but returns
to action with a 2 p.m., Feb. 11 match against Southern Illinois.
