CLARKSVILLE. - Austin Peay State University women's tennis
team suffered an traumatic collapse, falling 5-2 to Jacksonville State, Friday,
at the Austin Peay Tennis Courts.
It all started when the No. 2 doubles team of
junior Vanja Tomic and freshman Andra Cornea allowed JSU's Ralphaela Lima and Raisa Guasti to comeback from a 7-2
deficit. Lima and Guasti broke the Lady Govs serve a number of times and went
on to win the match, 9-7.
This was after sophomore Carolin Weikard and
Kimberly Loo picked up an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles.
Tomic would go on to pick up a straight-set
win at No. 1 singles, while Loo rolled to a win at No. 5 singles, allowing only
one game to JSU's Juliana Renesto.
However, Weikard lost in a tiebreaker at No.
2 singles after winning the opening set, 6-4. Cornea would do the same at No. 4
singles. Senior Brittany Hays made her first appearance for the Lady Govs, but
also suffered a straight-set loss at No. 6.
Austin Peay will now have a week to prepare
for the upcoming Ohio Valley Conference Tennis Tournament, of which it is the
defending champions. Tournament seeding will be announced early next week by
the conference office.
