CLARKSVILLE - Austin Peay State University women's soccer
team returns home to host conference newcomer Belmont at 2 p.m., Sunday, at
Morgan Brothers Soccer Field.
The Lady Govs (5-7-0, 1-2-0 OVC) split last weekend's road
matches, dropping a 2-1 decision at UT Martin and rebounding with a 1-0 shutout
at Southeast Missouri for their season's first Ohio Valley Conference victory.
Juniors Tatiana Ariza (four goals, four assists) and Morgan Zigelsky (three goals, three assists) and senior Emily Perkins (four goals)
have carried the Lady Govs offense for much of 2012. The trio has either
assisted or scored on 15 of the Lady Govs 19 goals this season.
"I feel like we've got our line-up in a pretty good place,"
said head coach Kelley Guth. "We've got some consistency now, especially along
our back line. They've really minimized our opponents opportunities to score."
This will be the first meeting between Belmont (4-5-1, 0-1-1
OVC) and Austin Peay with the Bruins as OVC members. The Lady Govs are 3-1-2
all-time against Belmont, with the lone loss coming back in 2008.
Last season, both Tatiana and Natalia Ariza netted second-half
goals in Austin Peay's 2-1 victory against the Bruins. Both goals came thanks
to fouls, with Tatiana burying a 61st-minute penalty kick and Natalia scoring
in the 79th minute on a free kick just outside the 18-yard box.
Keep An Eye On...
Junior Natalia Ariza needs one point to break her tie with Kaylee Yago
(2002-05) and Erica Dengler (2003-06) for fourth all-time in scoring; all three
are currently deadlocked at 30. A goal for Ariza would move her past Yago and
Dengler in points and tie her with the duo for fourth all-time in goals scored
with 12.
Senior Emily Perkins is tied with Natalia Ariza with 11 career goals, tied
for sixth all-time.
Junior Andy Quiceno needs one assist to take sole possession of second
all-time in Lady Govs history with 13.
With one point, junior Tatiana Ariza will have earned a top-10 single-season
scoring mark for the third consecutive season. With one assist, she will move
into a tie for fourth-most all-time in a single season with five.
Junior Joceline Quiceno needs one point to tie Adonia Bivins (2003-06) for
seventh all-time. An assist will give her sole possession of sixth-place
all-time.
The Lady Govs hit the road for action next weekend at Eastern Illinois (1
p.m., Friday, Oct. 12) and SIU Edwardsville (1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 14).
