Box Score CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Austin Peay State University's
volleyball team battled valiantly against Ohio Valley Conference West
Division-leading Southeast Missouri, falling in four sets (25-16, 25-20, 26-28,
25-19) at Houck Fieldhouse, Friday. The Lady Govs fall to 8-12 overall (2-3 OVC
West), while Southeast Missouri improved to 13-7 (5-0 OVC West).
The Lady Govs got an impressive performance from senior
Nikki Doyle, who recorded a season-high 23 kills (.193 attack percentage); seven
of those kills came in the Lady Govs third-set victory. Sophomore Jada Stotts
chipped in 18 kills and 12 digs, recording her season's 10th double-double.
After dropping the first two sets, the Lady Govs rallied to
take the third set 28-26 behind Doyle and Stotts (seven kills apiece). Aside
from Stotts and Doyle, the Lady Govs were limited on offense; the rest of the
line-up combined for 11 kills and nine attacking errors.
"We gave ourselves a chance to be successful tonight," said Lady Govs head coach Taylor Mott. "However, we weren't able to execute when we needed to against a good team."
Sophomore Cami Fields was credited with 42 assists and 17
digs, leading the Lady Govs in both fields.
Colleen Yarber (18 kills, 11 digs) and Brittney Kalinowski
(13 kills, 12 digs) each posted a double-double for the Redhawks. Julie Shives
had a match-high 50 assists.
The Lady Govs close out their four-match OVC road swing with
an 11 a.m., Saturday, match at UT Martin.
