CLARKSVILLE - Austin Peay State University baseball team's
busy early signing period now includes some help on the mound as Caleb Powell,
of Milan, has signed a national letter of intent.
Powell, a 6-2, 215-pound right-handed pitcher, is a
three-time All-Region 7 and All-District selection at Milan High School. He was named to the Tennessee Sports Writers
Association's All-State Class AA team as a pitcher in 2011, compiling a 7-2
record and 1.75 ERA. Powell was ranked the No. 40 prospect in Tennessee by
PerfectGame.org. During the summer, Powell played for the Dulins Dodgers summer
baseball program.
"Caleb is a big strong right-handed pitcher whose future is
very bright in our program," said Austin Peay head coach Gary McClure. "We
expect Caleb to come in and compete for one of the spots at the top of our
pitching staff. He has great stuff on the mound and he competes. We know
exactly what we are getting with Caleb and we couldn't be any happier that he
has signed with us."
As a sophomore, Powell was a Tennessee Baseball Coaches
Association Second-Team All-State selection as an infielder in 2011 after
batting .452 with three home runs and 40 RBI. He was selected to the TBCA's
Super Sophomore Team as both a sophomore and a freshman. He began his prep
career with an 8-1 record and 2.20 ERA.
