Box Score 2 MURRAY, Ky. - Murray State bounced back from its season's only defeat while handing Austin Peay State University its fourth straight loss as the Racers rolled past the Governors, 82-63, in Ohio Valley Conference action, Saturday night, played at CFSB Center.
The Racers moved to 24-1 overall and 12-1 in the OVC while the Governors fell to 9-18 for the season and 6-7 in the OVC.
The Racers used five first-half three pointers to aid runs of 9-2 and 18-4 to build much as a 21-point lead. The Govs scored the first half's final eight points to cut the deficit to 13, 37-24, at intermission.
But the Govs' momentum was short lived. The Racers scored the second half's first 11 points to build a 48-24 lead and APSU really never threatened after that.
The Govs' second-half highlights came from a pair of young guards. Freshman point guard Herdie Lawrence scored nine of his 13 points in the final half. But it was sophomore Alton Williams who offered the Govs something it has been lacking in recent weeks. The walk-on knocked down five second-half three pointers to finish with a team-best 15 points.
Josh Terry and John Fraley also scored in double figures, finishing with 13 points. Fraley had a team-best eight rebounds for the Govs, who were out-rebounded 37-23 on the night.
OVC Player of the Year candidate Isaiah Canaan led all scorers with 23 points to go with six assists.
The Racers' shot 27 of 52 from the floor (52 percent), including an impressive 61 percent (14 of 23) from the floor.
