Box Score CLARKSVILLE – Playing its final home Ohio Valley Conference match, Austin Peay State University's volleyball team could not solve a hot Belmont squad and fell in three sets (20-25, 23-25, 18-25), Friday night, at the Dunn Center.
Austin Peay (10-18, 7-5 OVC) could not carry the momentum of an impressive Tuesday victory against Tennessee State. Just four days after posting a season-best .350 attack percentage, the Lady Govs struggled and were held to a .134 mark against Belmont.
Belmont (15-12, 8-3 OVC) entered the match as the hottest league squad, extending its win streak to seven matches with Friday's win. While the Bruins offense posted a respectable .234 attack percentage, it was the 45-32 margin in kills that proved the difference.
The Bruins broke open the first set with a 10-2 run, turning an 8-8 tie into an 18-10 lead en route to the 25-20 win. The second set was a closer affair, Austin Peay battling back to tie the set 23-23 with a 7-3 run, but Belmont scored consecutive points on kills by Alex Martin and Scarlet Gable to escape with the 25-23 victory. The third set was more like the first, but it was an 8-0 Belmont run that was decisive on the way to a 25-18 win.
Junior Jada Stotts led Austin Peay with 13 kills and a .205 attack percentage. Senior Lauren Henderson was next on the squad with seven kills in her final OVC home match.
Allison McCoy led Belmont with 13 kills and a .611 attack percentage. Scarlet Gable added a 12-kill, .229 attack percentage effort.
Austin Peay will conclude the home portion of its schedule when it hosts Middle Tennessee in a 7 p.m., Tuesday non-conference contest.
