CLARKSVILLE - Austin Peay State University second baseman
Jordan Hankins was named the Tennessee Sport Writers Association's Player of
the Week, Tuesday. In addition, the Govs baseball team was named the Central
Region Team of the Week by the CollegeBaseballInsider.com website.
Hankins, of Wentzville, Mo., went 9-for-18 in four games
last week, posting a multi-hit performance in each game. He went 2-for-4 with a
walk and RBI in a midweek victory at Middle Tennessee.
Hankins began the three-game set against Illinois State with
an emphatic statement, hitting a two-run home run in his first at-bat and
finished the game 3-for-5. He followed that with a 2-for-5 Saturday outing that
included a two-run double that ignited an eight-run fifth inning. Hankins
finished the week with a 2-for-4 outing, Sunday.
College Sports Madness also named Hankins its conference
player of the week, Monday.
Behind his effort, Austin Peay went 4-0 on the week and ran
its win streak to five games. The Govs 6-1 start is their fifth-best in program
history and best since a 6-1 start to the 2004 campaign.
College Baseball Insider named the Govs the Louisville
Slugger Central Team of the Week, one of four region teams named. The group was
led by Florida Gulf Coast which was tabbed as the Louisville Slugger Team of
the Week following a three-game sweep of nationally ranked Florida.
Austin Peay continues its homestand with a 3 p.m., Tuesday
contest against Southern Illinois.
