Lady Govs drop shortened match at Eastern Illinois

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – With the threat of inclement weather hanging over the Wabash Tennis Center, Austin Peay State University women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 4-2 match to host Eastern Illinois, Sunday.

Austin Peay (4-10, 1-3 OVC) dropped its sixth road match in seven attempts during the spring season. Eastern Illinois (7-3, 2-1 OVC) wins its first home event since Jan. 25.

Sophomore Ornella Di Salvo knocked off Sephora Boulbahaiem, who had been 6-3 entering the weekend for Eastern Illinois. After dropping the first set, 1-6, Di Salvo battled back for the victory, taking the final two sets 6-3, 6-4, to move to 7-7 this spring and 2-2 against OVC opponents.

Sophomore Vanessa Tavares also moved to 7-7 in dual action. She knocked off Jennifer Kim in straight sets (6-4, 6-1) at No. 4 singles.

The Lady Govs nearly tied it at three wins apiece – which would have forced the teams to play doubles to determine a winner – in No. 5 singles. Sophomore Jovana Karac dominated the first set, 6-1, before dropping the last two sets 5-7, 6-0 to Ali Foster.

The Lady Govs return home for two matches next weekend, hosting Southeast Missouri, 11 a.m., Friday, March 29 and UT Martin, 1 p.m., Saturday, March 30.
