CLARKSVILLE,
Tenn. - Austin Peay State University's men's tennis team held off a Lipscomb
rally at the Austin Peay Tennis Center, Tuesday, winning 4-3 and improving to
5-2 on the season.
Senior Sean Bailey won both his singles and doubles matches
helping the team to victory. Bailey and doubles partner Jasmin Ademovic won
their doubles match, 8-0, against Oliver Strecker and David Salazar, but the
Govs were unable to secure the doubles point. In singles, Bailey knocked off
Strecker (6-2, 4-6, 6-1) in a hard-fought victory.
"We regressed a bit in doubles play as a group," said head coach Ross Brown. "We did a number of things that won't help you win in doubles. However, Sean
played phenomenally in singles and doubles, and that's something we're very encouraged
by."
Ademovic was victorious in his No. 2 singles match (6-4,
6-1) versus Salazar. At the No. 3 spot, sophomore Dimitar Ristovski also picked
up a victory, winning 6-4, 6-3 against Daniel Hernandez.
"I was extremely encouraged by Jasmin today," Brown said. "I
thought that was his best match this year. Dimitar played another great match
out there as well."
Senior John Storie fought a long battle at No. 5 singles with
Lipscomb's Miguel Cortez, winning the first set, 6-4, before dropping the second
set, 3-6. Storie lost the third set, played in tiebreaker format, 15-13.
The Govs will take their sixth straight win when they face
Northern Kentucky, at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, in Highland Heights, Ky.
