Lady Govs roll in exhibition finale

Box Score

CLARKSVILLE - Austin Peay State University women's soccer team controlled pace for most of Friday night's match against Freed Hardeman, getting multiple goals from seniors Tatiana Ariza and Morgan Zigelsky and junior Shelby Olszewski en route to a 9-0 victory.

The win concludes the exhibition portion of Austin Peay's season, with the Lady Govs finishing preseason play with a 2-1 mark.

Austin Peay got on the board quickly in the first half, with Ariza netting both her goals within the game's first 15 minutes. Her first came after a bit of deft passing from senior Morgan Zigelsky and junior Frankie Carbajal, while her sister Natalia got the assist on the second goal.

Olszewski got on the board less than three minutes after Ariza's second goal, arcing a long shot over the head of Freed Hardeman keeper Abbey Adkins for the tally. Carbajal was credited with her second assist on the play. Zigelsky added the first of her two goals minutes later to make it 4-0 less than 20 minutes into the contest; she would add an unassisted goal in the second half.

Austin Peay's newcomers got in on the scoring later in the contest. Freshmen Emily Anderson (41st minute), Kate Siddall (42nd minute) and Gina Fabbro (49th minute) each found the back of the net in this contest. For Fabbro, it was her second goal of the exhibition season – she scored Austin Peay's lone goal in the Aug. 11 contest against Alabama.

Olszewski netted her second goal, and Austin Peay's final tally on the night, in the 65th minute, heading home a corner kick from junior Claire Pultz, who had two assists in the game.

The Lady Govs backline made life simple for keepers Nikki Filippone and Katie Emig, neither of whom were challenged on the evening for Austin Peay's second shutout of the preseason.

Austin Peay opens regular season play with a 6 p.m. (CT), Friday, Aug. 23 match at Chattanooga before traveling to Boone, N.C. for a Sunday, Aug. 25 game against Appalachian State. The Lady Govs return to Morgan Bros. Field for the home opener, 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 30, against UALR.
