Tavares strong but Lady Govs fall late against NKU

CLARKSVILLE – A late start ended Austin Peay State University women's tennis match against Northern Kentucky in the early hours of Saturday morning, with the Lady Govs coming out on the wrong end of a 4-1 result at the Austin Peay Tennis Center.

Junior Vanessa Tavares was the big winner for the Lady Govs against the Norse. She took down Nicole Soutar 7-5, 4-6, 10-6 at No. 3 singles and teamed with freshman Isabela Jovanovic to defeat Soutar and Marta Romeo, 6-2, at No. 2 doubles for her season's first wins.

Junior Ornella Di Salvo forced a third set in her No. 2 singles match against Danielle Donahue before ultimately running out of steam, falling 6-1, 6-7, 10-4.

Junior Jovana Karac and freshman Hannah Tatlock battled to help the Lady Govs secure the doubles point, forcing a tiebreaker before falling 7-6 (8-6) to Yasmine Xantos and Sierra Nellessen.

The Lady Govs return to action Feb. 7 with their season's first road match at Middle Tennessee, with a scheduled 2 p.m. start time.
