Govs make it look easy in season-opening win against NKU

CLARKSVILLE - Austin Peay State University men's tennis team made quick work of Northern Kentucky, defeating the Norse 4-0 in Friday night action at the Austin Peay Tennis Center.

Senior Jasmin Ademovic got his final Austin Peay season started on the right foot, taking the No. 1 singles from Mate Virag with a 6-3, 6-2 decision. In doubles action, he paired with junior Aleksas Tverijonas for a 6-3 win over Virag and Pierce Kohls, 6-3.

Tverijonas picked up where he left off in 2013, winning his No. 3 singles battle in dominating fashion with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Christopher Angulo. Both Ademovic and Tverijonas showed themselves capable of moving up a spot in the lineup with the departure of Sean Bailey.

Juniors Dimitar Ristovski and Iago Seffrin helped clinch the doubles point with a 6-1 win against Angulo and Jody Maginley, while freshmen James Mitchell and Manuel Montenegro's match against Jack Carney and Balint Zsidai went unfinished, as did the singles matches of Montenegro, Ristovski and Seffrin. Mitchell won at No. 5, 0-6, 2-2, ret. over Zsidai.

The Govs return to action Saturday, Feb. 1, when they host Chattanooga at the Austin Peay Tennis Center.
