THE OPENING TIP
LADY GOVS WRAP UP HOMESTAND WITH RARE THURSDAY OVC OUTING
Austin Peay women's basketball team will complete a whirlwind three-game, six-day homestand when it hosts Murray State in a 7 p.m., Thursday contest at the Dunn Center.
The Lady Govs return to action after seeing their four-game win streak stopped with a 69-65 OVC loss to Jacksonville State, Monday. Austin Peay rallied from an 18-point deficit and led briefly in the closing minutes but Jacksonville State scored the game's final five points to secure the win.
Austin Peay will open the second half of its league schedule with a familiar foe as Murray State will visit for the 79th meeting between the two squads. The Racers won the season's first meeting, 76-68, just 19 days ago. Murray State's Keiona Kirby scored 22 points to lead all scorers and the Racers scored 25 points at the free throw line. Freshman Tearra Banks led APSU with 17 points in 19 minutes.
Murray State visits Clarksville battling a five-game losing streak that dates back to its victory against Austin Peay. The Racers lost the services of leading scorer Kirby in their next game following the win against APSU and have not been able to post a win since. Murray State's offense slowly has recovered as four different players have led the team in scoring during the five-game stretch.
