Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | By Cody Bush

Lady Govs fall in second half of Nashville swing

NASHVILLE – After winning the first half of its Nashville swing, Austin Peay State University's volleyball team could not bring that intensity into the second half of the swing, falling in four sets (20-25, 16-25, 25-19, 19-25) to Belmont, Saturday, in Ohio Valley Conference action at the Curb Event Center.

In particular, Austin Peay's (11-13, 5-3 OVC) offense struggled in Saturday's loss, recording just 43 kills and a .112 attack percentage. The Lady Govs offense only found its rhythm in its third set win, leading wire-to-wire thanks to 13 kills and a .278 attack percentage.

Belmont (10-11, 6-2 OVC) bounced back from its subpar effort against Murray State, Friday, posting 60 kills and a .277 attack percentage. The Bruins did not hit below .200 and recorded at least 13 kills in each of the four sets. Belmont won the first set in wire-to-wire fashion then build early leads and held on to win both the second and fourth sets.

"We didn't play with much intensity," said Lady Govs head coach Taylor Mott. "It showed in all phases of the game, but we struggled particularly with our passing. We never really got any momentum today."

Senior outside hitter Jada Stotts led Austin Peay with 16 kills but hit just .182 in the contest. Freshman outside hitter Ashley Slay added 10 kills and posted a .208 attack percentage.

Belmont's Arianna Person led all hitters with 19 kills while hitting .386. Jocelyn Youngdahl added 14 kills at a .520 clip.

Austin Peay begins a four-match homestand with a 6 p.m., Friday contest against Eastern Illinois.
