In a game dominated by scoring runs, Austin Peay (9-14, 6-4 OVC) used a 16-4 run over a seven minute span to build a 25-13 lead with 7:43 remaining. Junior Kristen Stainback and senior Nicole Olszewski each had a three-pointer to start the run. Gray then provided eight points during the burst.
Southeast Missouri (7-15, 3-6 OVC) did not wilt under the Austin Peay run and responded with a 17-4 run of its own. Kara Wright supplied seven points during the run, her free throw with 1:21 giving the Redhawks their first – and ultimately only – lead of the contest, 32-31.
The Lady Govs charged back with the first half's final four points – two each from Gray and sophomore Jennifer Nwokocha – and took a 35-31 lead into halftime. Still, the Redhawks did not fade away and countered with an 11-0 run of their own later in the half. Connor King had four points but it was Allyson Bradshaw's three-pointer with 7:38 left that cut the APSU lead to seven points, 66-59.
Southeast Missouri would close within six points on Patricia Mack's three-pointer at the 4:37 mark, but they would get no closer. Austin Peay closed the contest with a 10-4 run over the final 3:41 to secure the win.
Gray scored her game-high 26 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the floor and 9-of-12 from the free-throw line. Nwokocha finished with 16 points and eight rebounds while Rates chipped in 12 points and nine rebounds. Stainback added 15 points thanks to 4-of-7 shooting from three-point range.
