CLARKSVILLE – Austin Peay State University women's tennis team saw its two-match winning streak snapped in a 7-0 loss to Murray State, Tuesday, at the APSU Tennis Center.
After sweeping a pair of Ohio Valley Conference opponents last weekend, the Lady Govs were shutout by the Racers for the second year in a row, falling to 5-8 (2-2 in the OVC). Murray State improves to 9-4 (4-0 OVC).
Senior Andra Cornea was the only Lady Gov to force a third set Tuesday. She won the opening set Carla Suga at No. 2 singles 6-3, but dropped the next two 4-6, 4-10. Including the fall campaign, Cornea is now 4-2 in a team-high six three-set matches this season. It's her second straight three-set loss to Murray State.
The Lady Govs have to bounce back quickly with a big conference weekend looming. Austin Peay hosts Eastern Illinois, 10 a.m., March 29, before facing SIU Edwardsville in a Senior Day tilt 1 p.m., March 30.
