GOVS HOST EVANSVILLE IN MIDWEEK TILT

Austin Peay's baseball team returns to action when it hosts Evansville in a 4 p.m., Wednesday contest at Raymond C. Hand Park. The Govs bring back-to-back wins into a contest for the first time this season after winning its two outings in last weekend's Riverview Inn Classic. Evansville won 2 of 3 against Western Illinois last weekend and has won 3 of its last 4 entering the midweek outing. The Purple Aces have owned the recent series between the two teams, winning 8 of 11 since 2009. The Govs won both games last season, played as a doubleheader in Clarksville.

FIRST HACKS
After a 1-6 start to 2014, the Govs have won 3 of their last 4… Austin Peay entered the recent 4-game stretch with a season-low .193 batting average but were batting .243 following Saturday's contest against Bradley… Catcher P.J. Torres led the Govs with a .375 batting average and 1.000 slugging percentage last week as 5 of his 6 hits went for extra bases (2 2B, 3B, 2 HR)…Right fielder Rolando Gautier batted .368 as the Govs leadoff hitter and was the only Govs hitter to record a hit in all four games during the week… Utility man Ridge Smith led APSU with 6 RBI while batting .313 during the week… Two-way man Alex Robles (3B/P) and infielder Garrett Copeland also recorded five hits each during the week… Copeland also had 4 of the Govs 11 stolen bases during the week… Austin Peay's 11 stolen bases in the 4-game stretch give it 14 total stolen bases this season… Austin Peay has started six freshmen in each game this season… Eight freshmen have taken an at-bat this year and they have combined to hit .236 (50-for-212), with Robles (14 H, .400) leading the team in batting average… The Govs defense has gotten off to a rough start with 32 errors in the season's first 11 games (.926 fielding percentage)… Head coach Gary McClure is one of 28 active Division I coaches with 800 wins he is APSU and the OVC's all-time wins leader… This season, Austin Peay was picked to finish 2nd in the OVC's preseason poll behind Tennessee Tech… The Govs did not have a player selected to the preseason All-OVC squad; only senior catcher P.J. Torres returns after receiving All-OVC honors (2nd team) last season.

FIRST PITCH
Right-hander Caleb DeLee is scheduled to make his season's second start, Wednesday… He started the nightcap of the Eastern Michigan doubleheader, last Wednesday… DeLee did not factor into the decision after surrendering 3 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks in 4.1 innings… He struck out 5 of the 22 batters he faced… He began 2014 with 3 appearances out of the bullpen.
