Lady Govs start 2015 with MLK Day match at Chattanooga

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Austin Peay State University women's tennis team opens its 2015 spring season when it travels to Chattanooga, for a 1 p.m., Monday, match at the Manker Patten Tennis Club.

The match kicks off the spring campaign for both the Lady Govs and the Mocs, in addition to the third season for Austin Peay head coach Ross Brown.

Seniors Ornella Di Salvo and Vanessa Tavares and sophomore Hannah Tatlock return from solid spring seasons.  This fall, Di Salvo and Cornea were Austin Peay's representatives at October's ITA regionals in Knoxville, while Tatlock posted a 10-7 record in 2014.

Chattanooga returns six of its top seven players from last season's 18-5 squad which finished third in the Southern Conference.  Among those 18 wins was a 7-0 victory against Austin Peay, Jan. 20, 2014.  Junior Kayla Jones returns after earning first-team All-SoCon honors last season.

The Lady Govs hope to pick up their first victory against the Mocs since a 4-3 home win in Feb. 2010.  The Mocs own a two match winning streak in the series.

The Lady Govs will conclude their first week of the season when they travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn. for a Friday afternoon match with Middle Tennessee.
